New route for Link busFrom City Scene, published on 19 August, 2007 The Link bus route has changed because new low-emission "green" Link buses are being introduced at the end of August. The buses are too heavy to travel over Grafton Bridge, so they will cross the gully via Grafton Road instead. The bridge will be strengthened so it can carry the new green buses as part of the council's Central Connector project. The Central Connector will link the CBD and Newmarket cutting 14 minutes off on-peak bus trips for 65,000 daily users. The Link buses going towards the CBD from Newmarket travel as normal to Park Road, then turn right into Grafton Road, left into Symonds Street and right into Wellesley Street, before continuing their normal route. Buses going away from the CBD towards Newmarket travel as normal to Alfred Street, then turn into Grafton Road and left into Park Road, before continuing their normal route. The timetable remains the same. The council is also establishing a new stop for Link bus travellers on Grafton Road, just down from the Symonds Street intersection. Visit www.maxx.co.nz or phone 366 6400 for more details about changes to bus stop locations.
