Take Avondale's Te Whau Heritage Walk to discover some of the suburb's rich history. The heritage walk brochure outlines a route from the area's oldest building, St Ninian's Church, to the site of the old Avondale Hotel, pictured (c1898) - as well as places of historical significance on the Rosebank Peninsula and brief biographies of some of the area's founding fathers buried in the George Maxwell Memorial Cemetery. The Avondale Community Board provided a grant towards the costs of printing the brochures, which were developed with the support of the Avondale Business Association and the Avondale-Waterview Historical Society. For more local history information, contact Lisa Truttman of the Avondale-Waterview Historical Society on 828 8494, email historian@avondale.org.nz, or visit the Avondale Community Library.
