Transmission linesFrom City Scene, published on 26 August, 2007 Auckland City Council is advocating greater environmental protection from electricity transmission lines. In a submission to the Ministry for the Environment on Transpower's proposed upgrading of parts of the national grid, the Works and Services Committee suggested several amendments to Transpower's proposal. These included requiring all new transmission lines across the city be located underground, and for greater consideration of the long-term effects of electric and magnetic fields associated with the lines. The proposed national policy statement was publicly notified on 16 May, with a board of inquiry hearing of submissions scheduled for Monday, 27 August.
