Help for community groups

From City Scene, published on 2 September, 2007

Auckland City Council invites community groups to apply for a share of its community group accommodation support fund for 2008.

The fund provides community groups with financial assistance for costs including rent, rates and regular venue hire.

Community Development and Equity Committee chairperson Councillor Cathy Casey says the fund is one of many ways the council recognises the major contribution community groups make in our city. "Community groups provide strong social and support networks and a sense of belonging to many Aucklanders," she says.

In the past year, Auckland City Council provided $1.7 million in accommodation support funding to more than 350 community groups throughout the city.

Applications are open from Monday, 3 September to Friday, 5 October, with free public information sessions as follows:

  • 2 September, 12.30pm, Fickling Convention Centre, 546 Mt Albert Road, Three Kings (a sign language interpreter will be available)
  • 17 September, 4.30pm, Blockhouse Bay Community Centre, 524 Blockhouse Bay Road
  • 19 September, 6pm, Freemans Bay Community Hall, 52 Hepburn Street
