Reducing pollutionFrom City Scene, published on 9 September, 2007 A major upgrade of the drainage network will begin in January in the Kingsland and Eden Terrace areas, including upper Mt Eden, Newton Gully and parts of Morningside. Construction will take three years and affect around 1800 properties. The upgrade will reduce the annual volume of wastewater pollution that enters the Waitemata Harbour around Westmere, and remove 30 of the points where wastewater pollution currently overflows during wet weather. The work, to be undertaken by Clear Harbour Alliance (a partnership involving Auckland City Council-owned Metrowater), is part of an ongoing project to complete the separation of our city's combined wastewater and stormwater drainage systems. A newsletter is being distributed locally to provide residents and businesses with project information. For more details, visit www.clearharbour.co.nz or phone 0800 253 274.
