Rainbow Warrior paintings: A free exhibition at Stanbeth Gallery (24 to 26 Customs Street East, Britomart precinct) features three paintings by late Auckland artist Nelson Thompson recording the 1985 bombing of the Rainbow Warrior. The exhibition opens on weekends during the festival from 10am to 2pm. Britomart is also the centre of a free guided heritage buildings tour (17, 19, 21, 24, 26, 28 September - phone 300 3680 to book).

Heritage Auckland High Tea: Relive old memories and take high tea in the Heritage Auckland's rooftop grand tearoom (middle) - formerly the Farmer's Trading Company tearoom - on Sunday, 23 September at 12.30pm and 3.30pm. Visit www.ticketek.co.nz or phone 307 5000 to book ($35 or $25 for senior citizens). The great heritage quiz night: Test your knowledge of Auckland's history and heritage in an entertaining evening on Wednesday, 19 September at the Horse and Trap (3 Enfield Street, Mt Eden). Prizes will be awarded across several categories - including best heritage costume and team name. Entry is $5 per person. Phone 307 7242 to book.

Ponsonby presents: There's a huge variety of events celebrating Ponsonby's heritage during the festival. ), a free guided walk (Sunday, 16 September), a heritage tour of Auckland City Council's community visual arts facility, Artstation, by historian Edward Bennett (Saturday, 22 September) or the historic-themed market day on Ponsonby Road on Saturday, 29 September (10am to 4pm).
