Waikaraka cycleway officially openedFrom City Scene, published on 23 September, 2007
Mayor Dick Hubbard officially opened the Pikes Point to Onehunga Harbour Road section of Waikaraka cycleway last week, with help from Onehunga and St Joseph's primary school pupils. The cycleway got the big thumbs up from eight-year-old Chloe King. "I like that there are no bumps," she says. "I am going to come back with my mum and dad to ride in the weekends." The opening celebrates the completion of the first 4km of the planned 12km cycleway, which will eventually link Pikes Point with SH20 in Wesley. Auckland City Council is committed to making it safer and easier for Aucklanders to get around the city on a bike. The Waikaraka cycleway is a key part of Auckland's cycle network - linking more than 20 schools, parks and community centres in Onehunga.
