Share city stories at the Auckland Heritage Festival 2007From City Scene, published on 23 September, 2007 Don't miss the chance to reminisce about our central city from the 1940s to 1970s, at "CBD slice of life: come, hear and share". Guest speakers at this heritage festival event include former Auckland mayor and New Zealand Governor-General Dame Catherine Tizard, entertainer and broadcaster Don Linden, and former YWCA president Marie Taylor. After the speakers have shared their memories, audience members are invited to share their stories about the era over a cup of tea. To book your place phone 307 7242. CBD slice of life is a part of the council's Positive Ageing in Auckland plan, which aims to create opportunities for older people to participate and contribute to the life of our city. Another event that evolved from the plan is a morning for seniors on Monday, 1 October from 9.30am to 12.30pm at the Mt Albert War Memorial Hall (733 New North Road). Auckland City Council, Age Concern and the Auckland District Health Board are holding the free event for older citizens in recognition of the International Day of the Older People. Older people are warmly invited to attend the session, which will include information on community activities, live music, free health checks and spot prizes, as well as morning tea.
