Council fireworks controlsFrom City Scene, published on 23 September, 2007 Auckland City Council's Economic Development and Sustainable Business Committee welcomes new government controls on fireworks. The regulations, already in effect, reduce the sale period for fireworks from 10 to four days and require people purchasing fireworks to be aged 18 or older. The committee recommended regulatory changes to the Ministry for the Environment and the Minister for Auckland Issues. Committee chairperson Councillor Richard Northey says the restrictions should significantly reduce the misuse of fireworks without requiring a total ban.
