Writer's retreat

From City Scene, published on 7 October, 2007

Auckland City Council has renewed the Sargeson Centre's lease so it can continue to serve as a writers' retreat. The Frank Sargeson Trust offers literary fellowships for New Zealand and international writers to work for up to a year. In 1983, the trust formed a partnership with the council to convert Albert Park's then derelict Stables Building into the Sargeson Centre. The council bought the building and leased it to the trust to manage for 21 years. Last month, the trust got a new five-year community lease under the council's community and recreation lease policy.
