Kingdon Street rail stationFrom City Scene, published on 7 October, 2007 Ontrack is building a temporary rail station in Kingdon Street as part of major preparation work for the redevelopment of Newmarket's rail station. From Saturday, 6 October the street will be closed to through-traffic, but it will be business as usual for retailers along the street with some minor changes to the road layout and on-street parking. Work has been planned to minimise disruption as much as possible. Motorists can still drive down either side of Kingdon Street, and a pedestrian crossing over the railway tracks will remain open at all times. Another temporary rail station will be built just south of Remuera Road while the Newmarket rail station is rebuilt. Auckland City Council transport planners and urban designers are members of the project team to ensure the best possible outcome for the rail station upgrade.
