Fees for swimming pools

From City Scene, published on 7 October, 2007

Escalating operating costs have prompted the Auckland City Council to increase entry prices at six of its swimming pools for the first time in 10 years. Over that time, operating costs (including water, chemicals, energy and staff) have risen by more than 25 per cent. The adult fee will increase by $1 to $5 and the child fee by 50c to $2.50 from 20 October. At the same time, a new discount framework will be introduced to offer lower prices for a wide range of people including infants, students, families, senior citizens and community services card holders. The pools affected are Cameron pool, Glen Innes pool, Panmure Lagoon Leisure & Fitness Centre, Onehunga War Memorial pool and Pt Erin pool. Entry costs at the Parnell Baths will increase by 50 cents for both adults and children. The council subsidises the operation of these swimming pools, contributing $1.1 million in the 2005/2006 financial year.
