Lest we forget PasschendaeleFrom City Scene, published on 7 October, 2007
Aucklanders are invited to honour those who served in the 1917 Battle of Passchendaele, in Belgium, at a commemorative service on the consecrated ground surrounding the Cenotaph on Friday, 12 October. The 4pm service is one of several events marking the 90th anniversary of a battle which claimed more New Zealand lives than any other single day of warfare. The Auckland War Memorial Museum, Returned Servicemen's Association and New Zealand Defence Force have joined together to commemorate the anniversary, with a memorial service, wreath laying, and a minute's silence. A public programme of events will be held at Auckland Museum to commemorate the battle, including an exhibition of images, readings from war diaries and talks. Visit www.aucklandmuseum.com or 306 7070 to find out more.
