Work on sports fields for summerFrom City Scene, published on 14 October, 2007 Many of our city's sports fields are currently under repair so they are in the best possible condition for summer use. Each spring and autumn, Auckland City Council carries out work on fields, including aerating soil to help with grass health, adding soil to re-level playing surfaces, and sowing new grass. New grass is very vulnerable, and people using fields during its first few weeks can severely damage the tender young shoots. Where this work is underway, signs are in place asking people to stay off the fields. If your sports team is affected by field closures, phone Auckland City Council 379 2020 for help to find an alternative venue.
