Carbon neutral festivalFrom City Scene, published on 14 October, 2007
Auckland City Council sponsored New Zealand's first carbon neutral festival last month. The Auckland Seafood Festival gained carbon neutral status after event organiser Sanford Limited offset unavoidable emissions (such as electricity usage and diesel consumption from fishing vessels) through carbon credits sourced from Carbon Market Solutions Ltd, a government-approved project. Sanford Limited's managing director Eric Barratt says the company is committed to a sustainable future. "We believe that in making the Auckland Seafood Festival carbon neutral we are taking the first steps in leading the industry into a climate friendly future," he says.
