Caring for Waiheke reserveFrom City Scene, published on 28 October, 2007 A group of Waiheke island residents have entered into a formal partnership with Auckland City Council to help look after Newton reserve. The kaitiaki (guardians) of the reserve have planted more than 450 Waiheke grown trees and plants in the area during the past year. Under the partnership, the council will provide expertise, some financial support and consult the group about any future development of the reserve. Group member Pam Oliver says the partnership is a breakthrough for the group and its members are very pleased with the help they have received from council staff.
