Looking out for pedestrians

From City Scene, published on 11 November, 2007

Auckland City Council road safety coordinators work with community groups and residents throughout the city to keep pedestrians safe when using footpaths and roads. "Watch out, people about" in Mt Albert is an example of a community-initiated, council-supported campaign. The project was prompted by a blind resident's concerns about pedestrians being put at risk by drivers pulling out of their driveways too quickly. Flyers were distributed in local mailboxes to bring the issue to the attention of residents and emphasise that pedestrians have priority over vehicles entering or exiting driveways. If you have concerns about road safety in your community, please call Auckland City Council on 379 2020 to discuss possible solutions to the problem.
