Councillor's legacy honouredFrom City Scene, published on 2 December, 2007
It is with regret that Auckland City Council farewells Councillor Linda Leighton, who passed away recently. Councillor Leighton served as a member of the Mt Roskill Community Board from 1989 and as councillor for the Avondale-Mt Roskill ward from 2004. Mrs Leighton's community involvement in the Avondale and Mt Roskill communities went beyond local government roles, including acting as patron and president of Plunket, being involved in sports teams and teaching at local schools. "In recent times, Linda's health deteriorated but not her spirit, which was a source of inspiration to those who knew and worked with her," says the Mayor, Hon John Banks. "I would like to express, on behalf of the council, our deepest sympathy to Linda's family and loved ones at this time. Linda has left behind a legacy of many years of service to the people of Auckland city," says Mr Banks. "Her dedication and hard work will be remembered, as will her graciousness, consideration for others and tremendous courage."
