New events logo bursts onto sceneFrom City Scene, published on 2 December, 2007
Entertainment events managed or sponsored by Auckland City Council will be promoted using a special version of the council's new logo, bearing three celebratory starbursts. Creating the entertainment events logo was part of a settlement reached last week with Triangle Television, following the television company's concern about similarities between their logo and the council's. Other council activities, not related to entertainment events, will continue to use the new logo (without the starbursts). The new logo will help people connect the council with the services, facilities, events and activities it provides. The council undertook research to develop the new and improved logo, which now includes the word "council" and is much easier to see and use. Through research, people told us they thought the old logo was dated, looked authoritarian and was unclear. The new logo cost $25,000 to design, with an additional $16,000 spent on legal fees, registration and trademarking. Research about the logo was part of the council's ongoing, budgeted customer research programme. The research agency estimates the cost of the logo-related research at $42,000. An investment of $67,000 has been made in a more user-friendly website and reusable templates, which will reduce the future costs of designing new material as and when it is required. The council paid $10,000 for the design of the entertainment events logo and about $17,000 in legal fees to resolve the issue with Triangle Television.
