Work pauses for the Christmas rush

From City Scene, published on 9 December, 2007

Auckland City Council is putting the brakes on most roading work in the city between Saturday, 15 December and Wednesday, 26 December.

The works moratorium during this busy retailing period covers most projects. However, in some cases - such as emergencies or where continuing work is supported by local businesses - work will continue through the break.

Work on the Queen Street upgrade between Victoria and Customs streets will pause for the moratorium, though work at the intersection of Queen and Wakefield streets, and between Mayoral Drive and Karangahape Road, will continue through the holiday season.

The council's upgrade of Broadway in Newmarket resumes on Monday, 7 January following the successful completion of the first stage of the $6 million project in November.

Work will continue on Project Greenlane throughout the holiday period, with the safety median on Great South Road being removed for two weeks from 22 December, to make it easier to get around. Improvements to the Harp of Erin intersection will start on Sunday, 6 January.

For information about how local bus services will be affected, visit www.maxx.co.nz or phone 366 6400.
