Groundbreaking work to improve drainageFrom City Scene, published on 24 February, 2008
Sewer separation work has begun as part of a Clear Harbour Alliance project to improve water quality at Auckland's beaches and harbours. The project will separate wastewater and stormwater from the combined drainage system of 1000 properties in Kingsland, Eden Terrace, Mt Eden and Morningside. Work will close 36 overflow points that contaminate Motions Creek and the Waitemata Harbour. The work is due to be completed in 2011. Auckland City Council supports the $50 million project and will contribute $6 million over three years to the stormwater part of the project. It is one of 30 projects planned by Metrowater and the council over the next 20 years to separate wastewater from stormwater. This work will ensure the city's infrastructure can cope better with population growth. For more information contact Clear Harbour Alliance on 0800 253 274 or email info@clearharbour.co.nz
