Planning for the future of the Orakei peninsulaFrom City Scene, published on 16 March, 2008 The council has reached an agreement with Redwood Group Ltd to produce a master plan for any future development of the Orakei peninsula. "The agreement is a victory for the community and common sense," says the Mayor of Auckland city, Hon. John Banks. "The community sought such an approach and I'm pleased we've been able to sign an agreement with the developer to get such a plan underway." Mr Banks says the council is pleased with the goodwill that Redwood Group has shown by paying for and participating in a master plan to find the best solutions for the development of the area. "Quality residential housing, public open spaces and great access to public transport are some of the elements that should be incorporated in the plan," Mr Banks says. There will also be an opportunity for community engagement over the issues, including an open day at 246 Orakei Road on Wednesday, 19 March between 10am and 7pm.
