Keeping people informed: Greg Horne's role as the council's ambassador for the Central Connector route involves communicating project-related information to the public and local business owners, and relaying feedback to the council's contractors. Greg (above) says he's excited about his role and being involved in a great new transport initiative that will ultimately make travelling to and from the CBD quicker and easier for people.

Construction of the council's Central Connector, a dedicated busway between Newmarket and the CBD, starts next month. The project includes improving streetscapes and installing specially designed bus shelters.

The new busway will reduce bus journey times by up to 14 minutes and provide a safer route for pedestrians and cyclists. A new bus shelter is being installed on Park Road as part of a trial for the Central Connector. The new shelter will provide a much larger covered waiting area than conventional bus shelters. If the new design is effective, two more canopies will be installed along Park Road this year, one opposite the medical school and another outside the Grafton shops, east of Seafield View Road. Buses will not be stopping at the shelter during the trial.
