Combat graffitiFrom City Scene, published on 6 April, 2008 A freephone number for people to provide information about graffiti vandals has been set up as part of the council's zero tolerance to graffiti vandalism programme. Information provided to 0800 STOP TAGS (0800 7867 8247) will be assessed and followed up by the council and the police where there is a strong line of enquiry to pursue. The chairperson of the Community Services Committee, Councillor Paul Goldsmith, says the three-month trial of the 0800 number is another enforcement tool for catching and prosecuting graffiti vandals. "Effective prosecution is a critical part of the battle against graffiti vandalism. Tagging is a blight on our community and it will take a community effort to deal with it," he says. The public are encouraged to call the 0800 number with information about graffiti vandals and their associates - and to keep reporting graffiti for removal.
