Art gallery expansionFrom City Scene, published on 20 April, 2008 Three prominent art works outside Auckland Art Gallery's main building were placed in storage this week in preparation for the gallery's major restoration and expansion work, which starts next month. When work is completed in late 2010, Auckland City Council's signature gallery will have 50 per cent more exhibition space, new areas for education and events, and better connections with Albert Park. The three art works - Opened Stone by Hiroaki Ueda, Sappho by Aleko Kyriakos and Double L Excentric Gyratory by George Rickey - are part of the gallery's collection of contemporary and traditional artworks, the largest art collection in New Zealand.
