Gallipoli heroes

Auckland Museum will project Heroes of Gallipoli, the only known film made using original footage of the Gallipoli campaign, onto the side wall of its grand entrance between 7.30pm and 10pm on the three nights leading up to Anzac Day commemorations on Friday, 25 April. The 20-minute film, made by English war correspondent Ellis Ashmead-Bartlett and restored by Oscar-winning film director Peter Jackson, will play in a continuous loop from the steps of the cenotaph. During the day, visitors can sign a digital book of remembrance inside the museum, which was built as a memorial to the 12,000 Aucklanders who died in the first and second world wars. The museum will open at 6.45am, immediately after the dawn service on Anzac Day, close between 10.15am and noon for the commemorative service, then reopen until 5pm. No donations are required for museum entry on Anzac Day.
