Auckland Writers & Readers Festival 2008From City Scene, published on 4 May, 2008
This month's Auckland Writers & Readers Festival brings a wealth of national and international literary talent to our city. The programme features more than 60 events from 14 to 18 May, including readings, seminars and book launches. Festival guests include Tessa Duder, Witi Ihimaera and Mike Chunn, as well as an impressive international line-up including Sarah Hall and J M Coetzee. Festival founder and creative director Stephanie Johnson says the event allows people to recharge their minds. "People come along and are inspired to read, to write and to talk. They are introduced to new writers, ideas and a range of literary genres. It's great to walk through the crowds after an event and feel the buzz - the festival makes people happy," she says. Auckland City Council is a proud sponsor of the festival as part of supporting our city's creative industries. For more details and bookings, visit www.writersfestival.co.nz or phone 357 3355.
