Open spaceFrom City Scene, published on 11 May, 2008 The council is considering buying or leasing land on Hobson Street for public open space created by the Mission in the City redevelopment project. “A well-designed open space in this part of the central city could present a great opportunity, provided certain conditions are met,” says chairperson of the Community Services Committee, Councillor Paul Goldsmith. “These conditions include the council having the budget to acquire, develop and maintain the space; funding being confirmed for the rest of the project; and the open space having good access, a full street frontage, and being safe for families and others to use.” The council has agreed to commit up to $100,000 towards further work to determine if an open space can be provided that meets these conditions.
