Community hall opensFrom City Scene, published on 18 May, 2008 Auckland’s Sri Lankan Buddhist community recently celebrated the opening of their new community hall in Otahuhu. The council contributed $200,000 to the project from its facility partnership scheme. The complex is available for hire by the wider community and includes a yoga and youth facility room, library, meditation hall and kitchen. Since 2000, Auckland City Council’s facility partnership scheme has contributed more than $14 million towards the development of 25 quality community facilities throughout the city. The scheme provides a helping hand to community groups seeking financial support to develop new facilities that the wider community can also use.
