Fund sows new turf

From City Scene, published on 20 July, 2008

Auckland City Council's facility partnership grant of $750,000 to College Rifles will be used to install artificial turf at the Rifles' facility at Haast Street, Remuera.

The new turf will open the club to wider community use and a greater range of sports, including soccer, lacrosse, netball, touch, tag, rugby league and athletics.

Since 2000, the council's facility partnership scheme has contributed more than $14 million towards the development of 25 quality community facilities throughout the city.

Chairperson of the Arts, Culture and Recreation Committee, Councillor Greg Moyle, says the scheme aims to help community groups seeking financial support for new facilities that the wider community can use.

Other facilities that have benefited from the council scheme include Auckland Netball Centre, Tri Star Gymnastics regional facility and the New Zealand Sri Lanka Buddhist Trust's new community hall. Work to install the College Rifles turf is expected to start in late August and be completed by March 2009.
