Semi-Permanent, New Zealand's largest annual design event is back again with an international line-up of talent.

The council-sponsored forum brings together some of the industry's best creative minds.

This year's event, held over two days, will feature 12 speakers, including prominent graphic designers, film and television directors, and photographers from around the world.

Speakers include Danny Yount, famous for directing the highly acclaimed opening sequence of HBO series Six Feet Under, Australian design, film and production collective Collider, and Auckland-based graphic design studio The Wilderness.

Auckland city is the home of New Zealand's creative industries, employing 39 per cent of the country's creative workers.

The design sector alone employs about 5250 people in Auckland city.

Design is crucial to the city's economic future, says chairperson of the City Development committee, Councillor Peseta Sam Lotu-Iiga. "Design adds intrinsic value and provides unique points of difference that give New Zealand enterprises an edge in the global marketplace."

"The council is proud to sponsor events like this, which give the creative sector an opportunity to be inspired, learn, and develop," he says.

Semi-Permanent is on at the Aotea Centre 15 and 16 August.
