New roads good news for Christmas
From City Scene, published on 30 November, 2008
Two new link roads connecting Waipuna Road with Sylvia Park
will create better traffic flow in and around this shopping precinct that will
be especially helpful during busy shopping periods.
The construction of Musket Place and Stud Way was a joint
project between Auckland City Council and the
Kiwi Income Property Trust, which
owns Sylvia Park.
Work began in May and is due to finish in the first week of
December.
These new roads complement recent changes at Sylvia Park to
make this
popular shopping destination even easier to use.
A new, multi-storey car-parking building will provide an
additional 750 parking spaces. A new lobby connects the shopping centre to the
car park. It features two 30-person lifts, a travelator and a pedestrian bridge
that connects to level one of the centre.
These enhancements to Sylvia Park will bring the total
number of car parks to over 4000, providing ample space for Christmas shoppers
and future office buildings.
The new roads and other work, such as the recent upgrades
of Queen Street and Newmarket, are part of the council's plan to improve the
city's shopping areas.
