A new ferry service between Auckland city and Motutapu has
started just in time for summer so that Aucklanders can visit the island for day
trips more easily.
"The council is extremely proud of our Hauraki Gulf islands
as places to visit and live," says Councillor Ken
Baguley, chairperson of the Transport Committee.
"It is great to see that ferry operators continue to
improve access for the people of Auckland."
Fullers Group Ltd operates the weekend and public holiday
return service from Auckland's CBD and Devonport to Home Bay, Motutapu.
Attractions on the island include scenic walking tracks,
camping facilities at Home Bay, as well as distinctive flora and fauna formed as
a result of fallen ash and volcanic debris from Rangitoto's eruption
600 years ago.
