Auckland city park barbecues:
Barbecues vary from being either gas, wood or electric - it
is advisable to check with the council what type of barbecue is available at
your preferred park, before you leave home.
Please be aware of the following:
- the use of the barbecues is on a first come, first served
basis
- you may need to bring your own kindling for wood
barbecues
- once your meal is cooked, please clean the barbecue and
move away to allow others to use the facility
- use the bins provided to clean up after yourselves
- respect and protect the parks' plants and animals.

Safe cooking
Ensure you cook, clean and store your food correctly while
barbecuing and remember the four "C"s.
- Clean: wash your hands regularly, especially after
handling raw meat or poultry. Make sure you have clean utensils and equipment,
and use separate utensils for raw meats and poultry.
- Cook: make sure food is defrosted before cooking and
meat is cooked thoroughly. Don't leave cooked food to cool out of the fridge for
more than two hours. Pre-cook chicken, minced meat and sausages before
barbecuing.
- Cover: until ready to cook or eat. Keep raw meats and
poultry separate from cooked or ready-to-eat food, vegetables and fruit. Cover
dishes with foil when transporting hot food and use a chilly bin for cold food.
- Chill: store raw meats and poultry at the bottom of the
fridge so other food is not contaminated. Marinate food in the fridge, not on
the bench. Keep picnic food cool by using a frozen chilly pad.
