The Lumsden Green stormwater upgrade project reached an
important milestone recently with the addition of a tunnelling machine that will
dig 30 metres below Newmarket, around Davis Crescent and Short Street.
This upgrade will help to resolve the flooding issues in
Newmarket, as well as separating waste and stormwater, which is good news for
our beaches, streams and harbours.
"The same technology was used on a larger scale to help
construct the Hobson Bay pipeline, a Watercare project advocated by the mayor in
his last term, 2001-2004," says Councillor Aaron Bhatnagar, chairperson of the
City Development Committee.
"Now in its final stages, this particular project
demonstrates the council's support and commitment to improved beach and harbour
water quality."
