Inorganic collection

From City Scene, published on 15 February, 2009.

It's time to start clearing out garages and sheds of all junk accumulated over the past two years, as the inorganic rubbish collection starts shortly.

However, City Development Committee chairperson, Councillor Aaron Bhatnagar, says residents should wait until they get the collection leaflet in their letterbox.

"The leaflet is the green light for residents to put out their inorganic rubbish on the given dates. Please don't put rubbish out prior to this because it will cause clutter and potential safety issues before the council is ready to collect. Those who abuse the process could risk a $400 fine," says Mr Bhatnagar.

"The inorganic collection will be staggered across 19 Auckland city areas over a five-month period.

"We're asking residents to wait until the correct weekend to put their rubbish out and to stack inorganic rubbish tidily on the kerbside to ensure there are no obstructions to roads or footpaths."

Households will receive the leaflet approximately 10 days before the collection. If you haven't received your leaflet and you notice rubbish being put out in your area, please check your dates by entering your street name in the council's online search.
