Getting on with it - Illegal dumping
From City Scene, published on 1 March, 2009.
Epsom Normal Primary is now clear of illegally dumped
rubbish, thanks to assistance from Auckland City Council.
With two fines already issued to offenders and new "no
dumping" signs, no further dumping has been reported to the council.
The situation started after several recycling bins were
placed outside the school to raise money from the paper collected.
Unfortunately, the bins regularly overflowed and attracted illegal dumping.
Consequently, the council received several complaints. The council then
negotiated with the school to have the bins relocated onto school property -
away from the footpath and road. But when illegal dumping continued, fines were
issued and signs erected.
If you see a person dumping rubbish illegally, you can
report it to the council.
