Auckland city: What the new interactive council services map looks
like. |

Working out where to park and which recreational facilities
you would like to visit is now much easier thanks to the introduction of
interactive Google maps on the Auckland City Council website.
Last week saw the uploading of two new interactive maps - Waiheke and
Great Barrier islands - after the Auckland city map went live in December 2008.
Councillor Aaron Bhatnagar, chairperson of the City
Development Committee, applauded the online map
facility, which was helping the council to provide even better customer service.
"Auckland city residents and visitors will now be able to
benefit from these easy-to-use maps. At the click of a button people can check
where they can park in the city, what pool or recreational facility they can
visit, or even where major projects are occurring or plan to occur," he says.
"It's excellent and I recommend everyone visits the website
to have a look."
Work on these interactive Google maps will continue over
the coming weeks, and there are plans to create even more "single locator maps"
which locate specific places of interest, such as council buildings.
The council is also looking to use Google maps to help
promote tourist-related initiatives.
These maps can be view online.
