Aucklanders are reminded that a special community meeting to discuss a new concept for the proposed development of the Orakei peninsula will be held this week.

Tuesday night's meeting - to be hosted by the Mayor of Auckland city, Hon. John Banks, and the Hobson Community Board - will introduce the concept produced by architect Andrew Patterson.

Hobson Community Board chairperson, Desley Simpson, says the mayor has successfully gathered a number of key stakeholders together to find a solution to earlier ratepayer concerns.

"There is a real opportunity to turn the site into a productive, well-planned, sustainable little community to benefit the wider neighbourhood - not just blocks of apartments."

Following feedback from this community meeting, the next stage would be preparation of a plan change, which would go out for public consultation.

"This is an incredibly important meeting for our community, giving people the opportunity to have their say on the future of this unique city landscape," says Ms Simpson.

The meeting will be held at St Kentigern School hall, 82 Shore Road, Remuera, 5.45pm for a6pm start.
