The Auckland City Council website was named New Zealand's best
council site at the ALGIM local government web awards last week.
With more than 40,000 people visiting the site each week
it's not surprising that it was judged the best out of 85 nation-wide council
websites.
It is definitely your first port of call in keeping
up-to-date with your city and finding out about council services and information
that you may need to know.
Councillor Aaron Bhatnagar, chairperson of the City
Development Committee, comments: "Offering an easier-to-navigate system makes life a lot
simpler for our website visitors. With new technologies like Google Maps being
introduced, information will be even easier to find. Congratulations to council
officers on this award and this great achievement."
Website information includes:
- Building or renovating - Are you embarking on any
building on or around your property? You may need to check out the city's
building rules and regulations in our district plans. The recently updated
website ensures that information is easier to find and understand.
- Parks and recreation - Want to enjoy one of the 450 parks
and reserves Auckland city has to offer? The website includes information on all
parks - including maps to help you locate them. There are also details on 12
swimming pools, nine recreation centres, three public golf courses, more than
100 public tennis courts, 550 sports fields and 10 skate parks.
- Car parking and permits - Need to find a car park?
Parking maps within the website identify local car parking, as well as mobility
access parking. Additionally, parking permits are now easier to understand and
obtain with updated information online and an application form available for
download.
- Council projects in your area - Are you keen to know
about council projects in your local area over the next decade? As an
authoritative source of information about the council's draft 10-year plan, the
website has the complete project list and you can search by your address to find
out what's happening in your backyard.
- Events - Looking for something to do? With dozens of
events happening across Auckland city each month, the events page on the website
is one of the council's most popular pages. Keeping the whole family entertained
has never been so easy.
