Heart of the City, Auckland City Council and a number of retail, travel, accommodation, attraction and event organisations, are encouraging Kiwis to visit Auckland city this winter.

As part of this, a television advertising campaign started last weekend, highlighting the great things about Auckland - our "BIG little city".

For visitors to Auckland, the city offers an experience that is rich in events, shopping, nightlife, arts and international hotel options.

"Auckland is big enough to offer an exciting experience, yet compared to other international cities, it's still little enough to be friendly and easy to get around," says10 Heart of the City chief executive, Alex Swney.

The campaign aims to capture the "big-scale production" that occurs each morning to get the city ready. "Like a major theatre production, there are literally hundreds of people who get Auckland ready each day," adds Mr Swney.

The campaign features Aucklanders - including local celebrities such as chef Peter Gordon, musician Boh Runga (pictured) and fashion designer Denise L'Estrange-Corbett.

Arts, Culture and Recreation Committee chairperson, Councillor Greg Moyle, supports the campaign. "Aucklanders should be proud that they live and work in a buzzing, vibrant, and attractive city that is rich in culture and natural attractions. We want them to talk favourably about their city and encourage friends and family from other parts of New Zealand to come here and share our city with us."
