News in brief: Coat of arms
Coat of arms returns: The 5m-high coat of arms has been returned
after some much needed repairs.
From City Scene, published on 19 July, 2009.
Auckland City Council's crest and the city's formal "coat
of arms" is back where it belongs on the council's Civic Administration
Building.
It has been absent from the Auckland skyline since it was taken down
for maintenance and repainting in May. The hand-beaten aluminium crest, which
includes regional symbols such as the kiwi, flax and a sailing ship, was
originally installed in the 1970s.
