Dog owners reminded to register their dogs
Has your dog been registered?: Avoid the fine, register your dog
today!
From City Scene, published on 6 September, 2009.
Auckland City Council wishes to thank those responsible dog
owners who have already registered their dogs.
So far, 90 per cent of owners have, and the council would
now like to remind those who haven't to do so immediately.
All registered dogs should have a plastic tag. The tag's
colour changes each year and this year it's red.
Please note that microchipping a dog does not mean it's
registered.
Dog registration fees fund, amongst other things, a 24-hour
dog control service to deal with wandering, noisy and aggressive dogs, and
education and advice on dog issues.
Animal control officers have now started visiting
properties of unregistered dogs.
If visited, your dog may be impounded and you will be
charged impoundment and registration fees, as well as any other fees such as
microchipping your dog. You will also be issued with a $300 fine.
