News in brief: Ponsonby Road

The 40km/h speed restriction along
Ponsonby Road will take
effect as of Monday, 14 September.
The decision was made last month after the council
consulted with more than 3500 affected residents, property owners, businesses
and stakeholders. Ponsonby Road is one of Auckland's busiest areas, and has a
poor safety record with 253 crashes - 13 of these involving pedestrians - from
2004 to 2008.
The new speed zone, which has full support by NZ Police,
will be clearly signposted on Ponsonby Road and side roads.
