Don't forget to visit Queens Wharf - 13 September
'Opening the Red Gates' public access day: Experience the space and the potential.
From City Scene, published on 13 September, 2009.
Step onto Queens Wharf on Sunday, 13 September from 1pm-4pm
and experience what will soon be an amazing new public space for all New
Zealanders.
While wandering this prime waterfront location, you can
also catch the first glimpse of some of the suggested designs for its
development.
With the Queens Wharf design competition "Opening the Red
Gates" finishing at noon on Friday, 11 September, the designs will be hot off
the press. As City Scene went to print, organisers couldn't predict how many
design entries would be submitted - however more than 1000 had registered to
download the briefing documents.
Designs will also be on display from Sunday, 13 September
until mid-October at the Union Fish Co building at 116 Quay Street.
Anyone can comment on designs and give their point of view
via post (see below address) or online at
Queens Wharf. You can also
send in your general ideas for the development via the same way.
What happens next?
- 14 September - Design entries are evaluated by the chief
executives of Auckland City Council, Auckland Regional Council and Ministry of
Economic Development, who will be advised by independent experts.
- 25 September - Evaluation finishes and finalists
announced.
- 28 September-16 October - Finalists refine their entries
based on feedback from the evaluation panel, which takes into consideration
public comments.
- 19-30 October - Refined designs are evaluated.
- November - The winning design is announced.
"Opening the Red Gates" is a joint activity between
Auckland City Council, Auckland Regional Council and central government.
