The restoration of the historic
Pah Homestead at Monte
Cecilia Park in Hillsborough is now in full swing.
Soon to be the home of the new TSB Bank Wallace Arts
Centre, this unique venue will give visitors the chance to experience one of New
Zealand's most significant contemporary and modern art collections.
"The restoration is just the first stage of the Monte
Cecilia Park redevelopment - our vision is that this premier park becomes a
peaceful retreat, for all Aucklanders and visitors to experience arts and
culture," says Councillor Greg Moyle, chairperson of the Arts, Culture and
Recreation Committee.
The TSB Bank Wallace Arts Centre is expected to open
mid-2010, and is a partnership between Auckland City Council,
TSB Bank and the
James Wallace Arts Trust.
The centre will be open to the public free of charge except
for special exhibitions.
Wallace Art Awards
Winning art works from the 2009 Annual Wallace Art Awards
are now on display at the Aotea Centre until 2 October. Winners this year were
Marcus Willams and Susan Jowsey. Next year, the award ceremony will be held at
the TSB Bank Wallace Arts Centre, where the winning works will also be
exhibited.
Businessman James Wallace established the Annual Wallace
Art Awards 18 years ago, which are now the longest surviving annual art awards
of their kind in New Zealand. This year prizes are valued at more than $150,000
including valuable residencies at prestigious international studios. Visit the
James Wallace Arts Trust website for more information.
