Residents are being asked for their views on which location they would like to see Mountain Fountain relocated to. It was removed from Aotea Square in October 2008 ahead of the square's redevelopment.

After discussion with the artist, Terry Stringer, and the exploration of a number of sites, the council has identified two options for the artwork's new location.

Holy Trinity Cathedral, Parnell

The fountain (top right) would pick up on the established architecture of the cathedral and the forecourt design, integrating it within the existing paving layout. The sculpture would have a relatively prominent location, while leaving the forecourt clear.

This concept would mirror Rangitoto Island in the backdrop. The impression of uplift is enhanced by paving stepping up in an irregular manner towards the sculpture. The location (bottom right) would maintain a significant amount of grassed open space in the immediate area.

The council will consider your views together with input from the advisory panel for public art, the urban design review team and council parks staff, before making a final decision later in the year.

You can visit the Mountain fountain relocation section to submit your choice. Our survey is open until Sunday, 4 October.
