Sailing series returns to city

Louis Vuitton Pacific Series to return: February 2010 will once again see the best yachtsmen from across the world descend on Auckland.

Auckland will welcome the Louis Vuitton World Series to the Waitemata Harbour early next year.

The new series is an outgrowth of the successful and competitive Louis Vuitton Pacific Series, which took place in Auckland in February this year.

Drawing the best yachtsmen from across the world, the competition will commence in Nice, France, in November before the 10 international teams descend on Auckland.

Teams will compete with shared yachts, in a round robin, one-on-one match racing format, where the two finalists go head-to-head to determine the winner. "After the success of this year's event, which saw at least $16.1 million being injected into Auckland's economy, we are thrilled the competition is returning to our city," says Councillor Greg Moyle, chairperson of the Arts, Culture and Recreation Committee.
