International Day of the Older Person: Dozens of free activities
taking place from Ponsonby to Panmure
From City Scene, published on 27 September, 2009.
It's International Day of the Older Person this Thursday, 1 October, and
across the city will be celebrations and events marking the occasion.
Auckland City Council is working together with St John, Age Concern, Outreach
Therapy Pets and Auckland District Health Board to arrange the dozens of free
activities taking place from Ponsonby to Panmure. Activities include cake
decorating, salsa dancing demonstrations, workshops and much more.
"This is a great opportunity for the community to thank older people for the
valued contribution they make to society, and for them to enjoy themselves,"
says Councillor Paul Goldsmith, chairperson of the Community Services Committee.
While most events will happen on 1 October, events are also spread out across
this week - so make sure you ring the council
to find out what is going on in your area. You can also check your local library
or community centre for more
information.
