Six weeks since the passing of elephant Kashin, Auckland Zoo's remaining elephant, 26-year-old female Burma, is coping well without her long-time companion, thanks to her keepers and the support of the public.

"The elephant team is doing an amazing job - keeping Burma in a regular but varied routine that includes daily workouts, scrub-downs and walks through the zoo," says Auckland Zoo curator, Brooke Noonan.

"The fantastic support we have received from Aucklanders has helped the elephant team and all zoo staff tremendously."

You can continue to show your support by visiting Burma at the zoo. With school holidays now in full swing, it's a great time to come and pay a special visit.

Elephant encounters run at noon every Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday.
